Miss amanda brickey
Had a stuffy nose a week before Christmas it went away. It came back in mid January for a week or two, then it went away for about a week or so, then it came back around the end of january and I still have it today. Some days it's with me all day long, and other days I will be clear for part of the day then stuffy for the other part. What should I do? I told my cousin and he said go the doctors. I don't want to go unless I have to. I didn't take medicine yet because I was going to let it run its course, but it has taken to long to clear. so what do you recommend I do?

Sounds like it might be an allergy not a cold. See if you can work out whats causing it, maybe something new in the house like air freshener. Try an over the counter antihistamine if that helps you'll know it was an allergy.

Allergies aside, if you live in the Northern hemisphere, it could simply be dry indoor air during winter months. Inadequate humidification can cause exactly the symptoms you describe.

You can purchase saline nasal spray without a prescription at any pharmacy for very little cost. This is not a drug, it is simply sterile saline solution (mild salt water) intended to moisten nasal passages. Simply spray into each nostril according to directions and see if that offers any relief.

If "whole house" humidification is not possible, purchase a portable room humidifier. Especially recommended in the bedroom at night. These will not only help you breathe, they will help keep furniture and other household items (including the walls) from drying out.

If this helps, you've solved the problem. If not, consider seeing a doctor.
