I am thinking of buying an external hard drive media player such as the envizage unit seen on eBay or the memup unit. They all support jpg format photo files. Does anyone know whether they will back up, store or even show canon raw files (CR2)?

It will probably backup the file but may not display it without the correct software/ firmware. Check with the manufacturer before you buy and read up on the specs. I hope this is helpful.

They will probably store any file type, as the format does not matter to the drive, it merely stores it. If you have software for displaying Canon RAW on your computer then this will pull files from the device and show them. The media player is highly unlikely to show them itself as RAW is a format that varies from camera maker to maker, even sometimes camera to camera and so no standard way for showing it exists.

Any hard drive will store any type of file. File formats such a .jpg or .raw refer to which programs will open them.
