There are several types of Old Fashioneds. Generally they involve a mixture of whiskey and something either sweet or sour added in. You can find many variations at www.drinksmixer.com -- even a New Old Fashioned!

2 oz blended whiskey
1 sugar cube
1 dash bitters
1 twist lemon
1 slice orange (optional)
1 cherry (optional)

Combine the sugar cube, bitters, and 1 tsp. water in an old-fashioned glass. Muddle well, add blended whiskey, and stir. Add a twist of lemon peel and ice cubes. Add a slice of orange and a cherry perhaps.

Never forget the teaspoon of water at the start.

OR

3 shots Whiskey (max)
1 teaspoon Sugar
5 dashes Bitters

Add a teaspoon of sugar to glass, soak in bitters, add cubed ice, add whiskey slowly and stir until the sugar dissolves, adding more whiskey as necessary, enough to dissolve all the sugar in, no more. Garnish as above if liked.

Never add soda.
