Who is Eddie Bauer?

Discuss this question

Question found in Style & Fashion In General
See http://www.historylink.org/essays/output.cfm?file_id=1671

Eddie Bauer (1899-1986), inventor of the down parka, made his name synonymous with high-quality outdoor clothing and sporting goods. An avid outdoors man, Bauer opened a small sporting goods store in downtown Seattle in 1920. His own brush with hypothermia while on a fishing trip a few years later led to his experiments with down-filled clothing. By the time he retired, in 1968, he had turned an initial investment of $25 for goose down into a multimillion-dollar business.

I am a father of three children 8 6 4, I believe they are not being looked after properly. If I go for custody what benefits would I get ? can I still pay my mortgage? Do we have to move if I get custody I pay about £500 on my mortgage I / we would love to stay in this house. I am going for it anyway but I need help, usually you work to get things and I am a hard worker to give it all up seems hard. Is it possible?

Question found in Single Parenting
If you think they are not being properly looked after then of course you must try and get custody of them. You might well be entitled to benefits, certainly help with costs of childcare for out of school hours care - after school clubs etc.
It is possible, but it won't be easy. You will probably be in for a fight for custody, these usually turn out to be very messy, and sometime the children get dragged into these battles too. If you think your children are in danger you could approach the social services for help.

The Fathers for Justice website might be able to help you www.fathers-4-justice.org

You might have to give up a lot of what you've worked hard to build up - in the short term - but you will benefit in other ways from your children and knowing you are doing the best for them.

And you may have to be prepared to compromise - children love their mothers, despite their flaws - sometimes a bad mother is better than no mother at all. When you go through the court system you might end up with a shared custody - which can work - and at least you'd be able to impart your values, to instill the right and wrong of things when they are with you.

You are obviously a very caring father - any judge will be able to see that too and will consider your case in a good light. Too many fathers are too willing to shirk their responsibilities, when one comes along that wants to take on more responsibility, they have to be listened to.

Good Luck - I hope that there is a happy and amicable outcome for you all.

My friend and her partner split nearly a year ago but did not tell anyone until approx 9 months ago. Tragically her ex partner died 3 months ago. They have 2 children together. When should she move on with her life as I'm concerned that if she finds a new partner now people will think she is wrong to do so..all I want is for her and the children to be happy again...

Discuss this question

Question found in People & Relationships In General
I think you are a very caring friend to worry about her and her children. People deal with grief differently, and even though they were split up, the father of her children still died, so she will grieve for him, and the children will grieve for their father too. She will be very busy dealing with their feelings and her own - I doubt she'll have time to meet anyone new. If she does and that's her way of dealing with her grief - by loving someone and being loved by them - then who should judge her? Who's got that right? My concern for her there would be that her children might ( depending on their ages ) think it was too soon and that their father didn't matter to her. If she could explain to them why she was finding friendship and love from someone else, that it didn't change her feelings for their Dad, then maybe they could accept it.

She's got a good friend, she's got her kids and one day - whenever she's ready - she'll find love again. Keep being her friend, she needs you.

When is the right time to move on with life after a loved one dies?

Discuss this question

Question found in People & Relationships In General
There is no 'right' time. The only right time, is when it's right for the individual, and that'll vary hugely between people. Even when grieving for the same person the loved ones take varying times to decide to go on with life, some try too early, some leave it too long, but no-one should be judged for getting on with life too soon by anyone. Everyone copes with grief as best they can.

Is Bells Palsey reoccurring or is it a sign of a worse condition?

Discuss this question

Question found in Personal Health Issues
this site http://www.bellspalsy.ws/ should be helpful.

Bells palsy is a condition that causes the facial muscles to weaken or become paralyzed. It's caused by trauma to the 7th cranial nerve, and is not permanent. It is NOT thought to be a sign of a worse condition.

The possibility of recurrence had been thought to be as high as 10 - 20%. These figures have been lowered as more has been learned about conditions that are now diagnosed as other types of facial palsies. Estimates of the rate of recurrence still vary widely, from around 4 - 14%. Most recent reports hover at 5 - 9%. The average time span between recurrences is 10 years.

What is the general recommendation regarding colon cleansing (colonic)?

Discuss this question

Question found in Fitness & Wellbeing
Colonic cleansing is - generally - regarded as a good health promoting process. Depending on your state of health ( elderly or infirm might want to avoid fasting for example ) there are a number of options. The most popular in recent years has been colonic irrigation.

The accumulation of old faeces in the colon can stretch it and related body structures out of shape until it becomes three or four times as wide and twice as long as it should be, with only a small channel through which material may pass.

This can create hernias, collapsed colon, spastic colon, prolapsed colon, redundant colon, diverticulitis and hemorrhoids. In the majority of cases, colon cleansing alone will be sufficient to end any disturbing symptoms due to mechanical abnormalities (Robert Gray).

The accumulation of mucoid material along the walls of the small intestines can further interfere with nutrient absorption even though nutritional intake may be adequate. The nutrients that suffer the most are the large molecules, namely the proteins, vitamins and enzymes.

Stagnation is the failure of matter in the alimentary canal to continue moving until expelled through the anus. When material becomes lodged in the alimentary tract, it can continue to putrefy and release toxins for weeks. Stagnation occurs primarily in the colon and is usually the body's largest contributor to putrefaction and the consequent autointoxication. The primary objective of colon cleansing is to remove stagnant material from the colon and entire alimentary tract. Doing so will sizeably reduce putrefaction and autointoxication within the system. The stagnant material in the alimentary tract can be divided into two types - putrefactive and postputrefactive. Putrefactive matter is still moist, decaying, and releasing toxic substances. Unless removed it eventually becomes so dry and hard that it does not putrefy any further. This postputrefactive matter is very difficult to dissolve or remove, except with special herbs and fibres. Worms, amoebas and other parasites live in and thrive upon this stagnant putrefactive matter.

Transit time is how long it takes after food is eaten until its residues are expelled through the anus. The shorter the transit time, the less the food will putrefy before being expelled from the body, and the less will be the resultant autointoxication. Colon cleansing reduces transit time.

What can be done?

1. Skin brushing
2. Cleansing diet (or fasting)
3. Special fibres, herbs, and acidophilus and bifidus bacteria
4. Enemas or colonic irrigation treatments
