What does Ol ang zien mean?

Discuss this question

Question found in Miscellaneous
Hi there, when we sing "Auld Lang Syne" at New Year, we are singing the words of a poem by Scotland's Robbie Burns. The words represent a Scottish dialect and mean old times past, or in memory of all the good times.

I have a small bathroom off my laundry room that has a corner sink with 2 big utility mirrors over the sink. I want to update the bathroom and change the mirrors. I am not sure what to do about the mirrors whether to get 2 mirrors or could I go with one? Any suggestions?

Thanks, Nan

Hi Nan, I don't know if you have room for this but people who have a corner sink sometimes put over it a corner cabinet (for cosmetics, or shampoo, or medicines) with a single mirror on the door.

I know very well how to get motivated. BUT I HAVE PROBLEM WITH STAYING MOTIVATED. I have problem in staying motivated and not straying away into distractions and temptations.

One may say that if you are motivated enough how can distractions and temptations even come near you - They actually don't, but over a period of time persistent desires and temptations get the better of me and stray me away from my goal which I was earlier so motivated to achieve.

So I need help on how to CONSISTENTLY keep me pursuing my goal and not stray away into some attractive thing like a child does when he sees something fancy and new.

Question found in Alternative In General
Hi There, I can sympathise strongly with your problem because I write books and the pattern you describe is the pattern that all writers have to live with - starting out with a high level of enthusiasm and motivation, but then finding that there's a long slog of hard work to be done which is anything but motivating. This is when other distractions become very tempting - including the temptation to read books on writing or attend corses on writing - anything rather than actually getting down to write!

Here's the solution I adopt. First, you've already taken the most important step by recognising that temptations will set in, so you can anticipate and plan for them. Second, you need to break up whatever long-term project you are working on into manageable chunks, each with its own goal and its own rewards. That way you keep on being re-motivated with each milestone. Third, you need to keep in front of you some tangible reminder of the overall goal. If you want to win an Oscar, cut out a picture of an Oscar and pin it on your bedroom wall. Don't allow the temptations to dim your vision of your ultimate prize.

Dear Jurno,

This is an excellent answer - right from a person who is facing the same problem as me. I will surely implement this in my life.

May be to you this is just another question you have answered but to me this is answer is so very helpful.

Thanks a Million,

Lots of Love,

Rupert Symss.

Which is larger, a golden eagle or giant California condor?

Discuss this question

Question found in Animals & Nature
The condor is bigger - in fact the Andean Condor is the biggest bird in the world in terms of both weight and wingspan.

A Tip for travellers: If a member of your party is carried off by the Andean Condor, you must shoot the bird in the neck so that it drops with its wings outstretched and your friend will be returned to earth unharmed. If you shoot the bird elsewhere, its wings will fold, it will drop like a stone and you'll have to take your travelling companion back home in a jam jar.

Can finance company repossess my vehicle if I am on income support?

Discuss this question

Question found in Consumer Law
I'm afraid they can. You will have signed an agreement with the company to make certain payments and that the vehicle would be repossessed if you do not keep up the payments. That contract is quite independent of any other financial circumstances and is still valid whether you are on income support or not. If you think you have a special case, you can always put it to the finance company. They may well be willing to listen to you and accept some alternative arrangement. But whatever you agree with them, you must stick to.

Why is my poinsettia plant dropping all its leaves suddenly?

Discuss this question

Question found in Gardening
Unfortunately all poinsettias are very prone to this problem. They are grown in the dark to be ready for sale at Christmas as they rarely survive more than a few weeks before all the leaves drop. You can prolong its life by making sure it gets some water but not too much as they are very sensitive to both too much and too little - just make sure the soil feels damp.

Dear sir or madam I'm thinking of buying a wireless router for my laptop, I've got broadband. Could you explain how to connect it, also would I have to set up a password on the router to stop people hacking onto it?

Discuss this question

Question found in Computers In General
Hi there,

As the instructions you get with your router will explain, once you have plugged in and switched on, you will have to connect to your router through your web browser by inputting an address that your instruction book will give you (something like 0.0.0.2). This will give you access to the router's set up pages and you can then input the details that your broadband provider will give you.

You will have to put in the password you normally use to connect to your broadband service and that will prevent anyone else hacking into your broadband account.

Some people choose to encrypt their wireless communications with their router in order to prevent other people piggy-backing on their broadband connection. However, encrypting your communications will slow them down quite a lot. I personally don't do it for that reason.

Was Santa Claus green before coka cola changed him red?

Discuss this question

Question found in Miscellaneous
I'm afraid this appears to be another urban myth, although it's an understandable one because it seems to have been fostered by Coca-Cola itself. You can get the full story on this site:-

http://friendsofbeamish.co.uk/articles/santa.html

It seems pretty clear that Santa wore a red suit long before Coke's famous 1930s ads.
