I am a male, 63 years of age and wanted to know if I can reduce my working week from 5 days to 4?

| Question found in Employment Law |
 |
If you mean can you legally demand to reduce your working week because of your age, the answer is almost certainly no. In fact legislation has just come into force that prohibits employers treating people any differently because of their age.
The only relevant law here that I can see is the law which governs the maximum length of the working week, but that doesn't help you in this case.
Have you raised this question with you employers? There could be several reasons why it might suit them to cut your week to 4 days and they might jump at the chance. Even if they they aren't keen, you could suggest they consider flexible working. There's a site here which tells you about it
http://www.businesslink.gov.uk/bdotg/action/layer?r.l1=1073858787&topicId=1073931239&r.l2=1073858926&r.s=tl
There are benefits here for both employer and employee and there is employment legislation covering flexible working so you would continue to be protected.

My girlfriend wants to swallow me whole. If she could shrink me, what would be the tallest I could be (inch, cm or mm) so that I wouldn't get stuck and I would arrive safely and unharmed in her stomach? Once in her stomach how long would I survive. What exactly would happen to me and how long would it take? Could my chances be bettered if she had taken ant-acids and kept swallowing air? If it helps she is 5ft with slim build.

Hi There,
This question can only be answered by guesswork but it's not too difficult to see the likely possibilities.
First, the size you would have to be would be the size of the largest piece of food that your girlfriend could normally swallow - in other words, bite-sized. This varies from person to person but as your girlfriend is a petite 5 ft then let's say half an inch should be manageable - though she might have to wash you down with a glass of water.
However, I'm afraid your chances of survival are slim. First, you would probably suffocate through lack of air. But even if you survived that you would inevitably end up in your girlfriend's stomach and there you would be subjected to the digestive juices whose job is to digest tasty morsels such as yourself. These would include a form of hydrochloric acid. Even if she took lots of antacids, this would probably only prolong the agony and the digestive system would probably get you in the end.

Is there a website where I can find out about British Government 'secrets', released after the thirty year holding rule?

Hi There,
Probably the best site is the Government's own National Archives site at
http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/default.htm
They currently have a selection of juicy gems relating to issues like the Suez Crisis and the Cabinet Office diary in 1976 as well as scandalous stuff about Suffragettes picketing Parliament! The very idea!
Almost all of the disclosures will be covered in the national press and on TV. Probably the best news site for coverage is www.bbc.co.uk

If it's the whole breast, without bone, around 20 minutes or so. If it's just the individual fillets, then probably 10 to 15 minutes. But it's very important you cut into one to make sure they're properly cooked.

How can I tell whether I have a sinus infection or allergies ?

Hi there,
You can really only determine this by consulting your doctor. There are standard tests for allergies which are usually administered at your local hospital (they put a small drop of various potentially allergic substances on to a sensitive area of skin like your inner forearm and wait for half an hour to see if your skin reacts with any of them). Allergies often respond to treatment with anti-hystamines (hay fever pills).
If your sinuses are infected, the infection may well respond to antibiotics which your doctor will prescribe (allergies are not treatable with antibiotics).
By far the commonest allergy (and one I suffer from myself) is allergy to household dust. You can reduce this by regular vacuum cleaning, and you can get special vacuum cleaners for the purpose.

Hi There,
If you go to this site, you'll find a list of English-speaking doctors in Spain:-

Hopefully, you'll find one in your region that you can talk to. It sounds very much as if you need some informed medical advice.

How to unlock an SD Card for a Digital Camera?
|
|
Discuss this question

| Question found in Software |
 |
Hi There,
I've bought several SD cards for my Minolta digital camera and none of them have been locked. As far as I know they never are locked - they are not like the SIM card of a mobile phone, they are merely a block of memory. What makes you think the card you have is locked?
Try connecting it to a PC via either the camera and a USB cable or directly through a card connector and USB cable and see whether you can access it through Windows Explorer. Or take the card to your local boots and insert it into the automatic machine. It should simply read as empty. If so then there is no reason why you shouldn't be able to take pictures on the card with your camera, unless there is something wrong with the camera itself.

Thank you for taking time to answer my question concerning trademark, images/copyright , licensed logos. I am a kindergarten teacher and I have been using “environmental print” in my classroom for quite some time to help children learn to read. I have collected hundreds of images from Google image in the way of restaurants, food items, movies, cartoon characters, movie characters, snacks, drinks, storybook titles, toys, games and many other types of “picture print” that is familiar to emergent readers. I have done extensive research about the use of these images for my own classroom use. I find that they are perfectly legal. I am confused about the next step I am ready for. We have put these icons into cd’s to present to other teachers in curriculum development (how they too might use it) Still okay to use however,…this is where it gets muddled and I have received both yes and no answers to the following question. If we were to have these CD images available to sell to these educators, so they too could use them to teach reading, is this legal or would I have to contact each entity for permission to do so? Again, I appreciate your feedback and time. Sincerely, Pam Sechrest

| Question found in Legal Other |
 |
Hi Pam,
The legal position is that the people who created the works you downloaded are the owners of the copyright in those works automatically and you may not reproduce the works for any reason unless you have their permission. Even where the creators have been dead for long enough for the copyright to have expired (75 years is a guide) some institutions may still hold reproduction rights (for instance Mona Lisa and The Louvre).
The only exception to this under copyright law is that you may reproduce 'short extracts' from books for purposes of criticism or review.
What this means in practice is that no one is going to object if you print off a picture of the Mona Lisa for your kids, because it's obvious your motives are good and the effect will be beneficial. But the moment you start selling those works commercially, you have stepped across the line where the offence you are committing is likely no longer to be tolerated if the copyright owners find out about it.
I may add that you are particularly vulnerable where cartoon characters are concerned because the big film studios (especially Disney) are notoriously litigious in the protection of their images.
I get letters all the time from people writing to ask if they can quote from my books and I'm happy to say yes because it's good PR for me! But if someone started repackaging my work and selling it, I would be very annoyed and would certainly ask my lawyers to send them a stiff letter.
It may well be that many of the copyright owners of the images are long dead and it may also be that the ones who are still alive will never find out what you've done - but the fact remains that you will have broken an important law designed to protect the integrity of work that people have often struggled and suffered to created.

Hi there,
It's very important that you consult your doctor, or the A&E department of your local hospital as soon as possible to find out what's causing the lumps.
There are many possible causes - some benign, some more serious - but only a careful examination can say for sure. Do yourself a New Year favour and get the looked at right away.
