Your question is totally dependant on the chat program you use. First of all, both of you need to have the same program (Yahoo messenger, MSN messenger, Skype, SightSpeed to name only a few). Once you both have the same program and are chatting in it, and you have attached a suitable webcam to your computer, it is simply a matter of both of you being online at the same time chatting via your keyboard, and clicking the Webcam button usually found on the top of your chat or messenger program. Without knowing what program you both use it is impossible for Me to explain it further. I recommend Yahoo Messenger as being the most stable of the range of freeware programs, at least at the moment.

How safe are biometric fingerprint readers for keeping online passwords?
Discuss this question
| Question found in Computers Advanced |
First of all biometric fingerprint readers do not keep passwords. Your fingerprint IS the password. It is surmised that since virtually every fingerprint is unique, if someone else tries to use the device and it does not recognize your fingerprint, it will not start or boot up.
Thus, the fingerprint reader, and some other biometric security devices (a retina scan being another unique security device) appear to be almost burglarproof. Biometric logins are the realm of the future and ultimately that is what we will have to "identify" us as the user for credit cards, bank cards, and even health information records about ourselves.
Hope this has been of some use.
Comments :
Hi thanks for that - but to clarify I am thinking mainly of the possibility of an unauthorized piece of software on users system that can monitor the conventional password strings unlocked & issued to websites when a successful fingerprint match is detected ?

I have a rogue dialler on my Windows XP. I am using windows 98. I want to print, how I can get rid of this? please help..ta
Discuss this question
| Question found in Computers For Beginners |
Your question is somewhat confusing. First of all you state that the dialer is on your Windows XP, then you state that you use Windows 98. Unless you have a unique dual boot system you are only running either XP or 98, not both.
Having said that, a rogue dialer has nothing at all to do with your ability to print. A rogue dialer dials (usually) an overseas ISP and logs you in to their service, normally without permission. You only notice it when your phone bill shows LONG overseas calls that your computer has made. In other words, it "dials up" a new Internet connection then charges you for the call.
Steal programs like this are usually downloaded and installed without your knowledge or permission. To rid yourself of them you should obtain a copy of (all free) Spybot Search and Destroy, Adaware, and the program named Windows Defender from Microsoft. Simply go to www.google.com and enter those three names separately and the search engine will show you places online to download them. Get them, then install them on your system, and run them one after the other. They will find your dialer and disable it for you.
Note: As a precaution a) ensure you have adequate anti-virus protection on your machine and run it, and the other three, at least once per month and you should remain spyware or malware free.
I hope this is of some help.

What is DVD-R?
Discuss this question
| Question found in Hardware |
The above explanation is correct. DVD-R means that the DVD disk can be written to only once but read many times. As an example, any music or movie DVD you buy, you can play again and again (thus read again and again) but as it is a DVD-R it may only be written to once and that was done by the manufacturer of that disk.
On the other hand, a DVD-RW disk can be read many times, but also written to many times. I hope that helps answer your question.

While defragmenting D drive of my 80 gb HP hard disk I got the following message: " Vol HP recovery(D:) has only 8% free space available for use by Disk Fragmenter. To run effectively Disk Defragmenter requires at least 15% usable free space. There is not enough disk space to properly complete the operation. Delete some un-needed files on your hard disk' and then try again." All my existing files on D drive are essential and can't be deleted. Is there a solution to this problem?

One solution may be to burn some of your essential files onto a CD or DVD for storate. Once that is done, delete those files from your hard drive to allow enough room for your defragmenter to work properly.
Many also have additional hard drives added to their computer, both internally and externally. This, again, gives you other options for saving your own files and thus leaving your C drive mainly for the operating system and essential programs you use. You will find that the cost of new hard drives has dropped considerably and I feel this is your best option in the long run.
I hope this has helped to answer your question.

Hi, I am a new user to computers, I listen to alot of music and need to make alot of audio CD's, but I don't know how to transfer the music files from the computer to the CD using the CD Burning Software?

Any CD Burning software should have a manual with it showing how the procedure is done. Without knowing which software you use on your machine it is impossible to answer this question.
I suggest you investigate the software called NERO, download it from the net, and take the trial period to learn if it is the best one for you to learn. I feel it has superior capabilities to all others I've tested and now successfully make copies of my Cd's for play in the car CD player.
I think you will also fine this software easy to understand and use. Good luck.

Why do we fall in love?
Discuss this question
| Question found in People & Relationships In General |
The simple biological answer is to populate the planet and the species. Without love, without attraction, the planet wouldn't have very many people on it, nor would the species of mankind have probably still been a member of this planet.
The other answer, and possibly the more plausible, is that the animating force that has created this planet and us, whom some call god, others call the same entity by other names, states in all the holy writings of any religion that love is the force that draws mankind together as well as the animating force that draws us all closer to that Supreme Being.
There are therefore both physical and a philosophical reasons. I hope that has helped you in your understanding.

Why do we ask questions all the time ??? Why cant we accept things as they are???
Discuss this question
| Question found in Miscellaneous |
If we did not ask questions how would we progress in our knowledge of our environment, both physical and spiritual. If one never asked questions, and simply "accepted things as they are" we would all still be laying on the ground, starving to death and cold as we would never ask ourselves how we might survive. Thus questions as such are not wrong in and of themselves, but blind obedience without investigation is. Were that not so, then the most conflicts in the world would never be conflicts - the strong would simply overtake the weak. The fact that questions are asked and dogma and untruth is not acceptable is what keeps our species one step ahead of the rest of the species on this planet.
One could therefore ask, why did you ask your question? *smile*

How does the Internet work?
Discuss this question
| Question found in Internet In General |
In the most basic of terms, what we see as the Internet is simply a connection of networks, or interconnected networks, thus Internet for short. Computers on or attached to networks can usually share data with each other unless certain protocols prevent that from happening. If they can share data, and the network is then connected to other networks, the, in turn, also can then share data with each other. The Internet as we know it is thus, simply networks interconnected with other networks in one blanket term, Internet.
The net runs on protocols devised by computer scientists and even lay people who belong to ISOC or the Internet Society. You, as a computer user can join ISOC and, depending on competency, volunteer to work for and with others to improve how the overall networking works.
Unlike a corporation there is no "head office", no CEO or Board of directors, no Governing body with the exception that ISOC is ultimately responsible for the protocols used to keep the net working at its optimum.
Remember that the Internet was first used as a method of communication during the cold war years when countries feared nuclear holocaust, and needed methods to notify other countries should they come under attack. Thus, you can't stop the net, you can't prevent it from being, unless you rip out all telephone lines, radio communications and cable installations. Therefore you can't successfully censor what is on the net either. You can take measures to censor what comes into your own home, but to have the ability to censor the Internet in general would defeat the first reason for it's existence, as a global communication tool. I hope that is of some help.

| Question found in Miscellaneous |

5'2" converts to 157.48cm. Thus you will be considered as 157 cm in height.
I suggest going to http://www.onlineconversion.com/ and bookmarking that site for future use as they convert almost anything to anything. It is an easily done conversion capability to use.
Enjoy.
