Do I have to belong to a religion and be a church member in order to be saved by Jesus Christ? Can I believe in him in my heart and read the bible at home and get the same results?

Discuss this question

Question found in Religion & Spirituality In General
'Believing in Jesus' is not just accepting the fact that Jesus is Son of God, That he dies for us etc. etc. To believe in Jesus means to live according to his teachings. Bible is not something for just reading. If you do not practice what is taught in the Bible, the reading of it all day round in your room is not going to help.
Jesus did not show us a lonely paths to heaven. He taught us the concept of synergy - "where ever two or more of you are gathered in my name I shall be there." That is the role of the church or groups.
Jesus said that we should proclaim the good news to the whole world. We cannot do this just sitting alone in our rooms. Our very presence in a church or a prayer group is proclaiming the good news that we believe what Jesus taught - that the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
Man is a social being and our faith also must have that social dimension to it.

Are there any verses in the Bible that tell us we are not to say bless you to nonbelievers of God?

Discuss this question

Question found in Bible Studies
I do not remember coming across any such passage. All humans are children of the same Father and every one can be blessed. We can and must love every other person irrespective of his religious affiliations. Our one God will be very pleased if we pray for others or bless them.

If you had unlimited resources, what would you do for the Lord?

Discuss this question

Question found in Religion & Spirituality In General
1. No one can have unlimited resources. There is always a limit.
2. Even if you are the richest person on earth or the poorest person your attitude to what you have or what you do not have is what counts. What is important is that you be poor in spirit which means do not be attached to these possessions.
3. If I have 'unlimited' or plenty of resources I will not go round the world looking for poor people to give them money or food. I will manage all that resources as a trustee in the name of God, for the good of others.
4. I will of course donate sums to charities that are known to do good work and even start a trust that can cater for the needs of those in dire need, people suffering from wars, disasters and the like.

Is Jesus Christ coming again?

Discuss this question

Question found in Religion & Spirituality In General
The Second Coming

At the end of the world Jesus shall come again for the final judgment, to judge me. For me, the end of the world shall come, the sun will go dark, the mountains fall down, the whole world shall disappear; when I die. Then Jesus will put me with the sheep or the goat, hand down my reward or punishment. Then he shall remind me whether or not I gave something to the hungry and the thirsty, whether or not I empathized with the needy. That is the ‘second coming’ to me.

Is there any way to explain the universe and infinity without relying on math or religion? It makes no sense to me that the vastness of the universe could be contained OR uncontained, and the only scientific explanations I've ever heard resort to abstract math that has no meaning for me.

Discuss this question

Question found in Science In General
Instead of going into a mathematical or scientific view of the string theory of the origin let me give a poetic (philosophic?) view of it that could be understood better. It is like this:
There always was, there is, and will always be, this 'OCEAN of infinite dimensions'. But it was not water; it was not matter; neither was it 'nothing'. Rather it was the fullness of 'Being". In this ocean often bubbles of matter are generated. But these bubbles are generally very short-lived - may be a very small fraction of a second only.
Then one bubble was conceived in this infinite ocean in which for the matter all the relevant physical constants were 'fine tuned to such infinitesimally minute details that it survived the matter-antimatter annihilation. This is the singularity that and expanded and evolved into a universe. This ocean of infinite dimensions is called 'vacuum state' by scientists, 'sunyatha' (emptiness) by Buddhists and 'creator' by poets and philosophers.
This ocean has no boundaries. Going up you never reach the top; going down you never reach the bottom; going in any direction you never find a frontier. It is fathomless, endless, infinite. our universe which we think is vast is just the expanding bubble in this ocean.
