The earth makes almost exactly 24 hours to make a complete turn on its axis , so we might expect each high tide to occur 12 hours after the one before. However, the actual time between high tides is 12 hours and 25 minutes. How can I account for this difference?

Discuss this question

Question found in Science In General
Tides are connected to the relative positions of the moon with respect to a region on the earth. During the 12 hours the relative position of the moon with respect to your position has changed by that much. This accounts for the discrepancy you mentioned.

Distinguish between mass and weight.

Discuss this question

Question found in Science In General
Mass is the quantity of mater in an object while weight is the force due to gravity acting on the object.
The SI unit of mass is the kilogram while that of weight is the Newton.
Mass of a body is the same on earth, moon or in space while the weight of the body varies. If the weight of a body is 500 N on the earth, it could be about 100 N on the moon and almost zero in outer space, the region of weightlessness.

What contains chromosomes and produces mRNA?

Discuss this question

Question found in Science In General
Chromosomes are present in the macro molecule DNA, the most essential chemical needed for life processes. DNA itself is present in the nucleus of a cell. (DNA = deoxy rebonucleic acid - is such a complex molecule. In the human DNA there is said to be about 3 billion nucleotides)

mRNA or messenger RNA is produced in the nucleus from the DNA. These are called messenger because they carry the messages for the manufacture of protein from the DNA in the nucleus to the "protein factories" in the cytoplasm.

A one word answer to your question is DNA or even nucleus.

I am in the process of a formal grievance against my manager for bullying and intimidating behaviour towards me, this has led to me being off work with depression, my doctor has written a letter stating she believes that my depression is due to my manager. My Union Rep says that as my allegations cannot be proven, I might lose the case, how can I prove this when there is no one to back up my claim?

Discuss this question

Question found in Human Rights
I would go with the words of the union rep. If you cannot substantiate your claims do not go ahead with the procedure. I wonder if it is possible for you to find an intermediary, one who is on fairly good terms with you and the manager. Discuss the problem with him/her. That person may be able to go to the root of the problem and help you two to sort it out.

Another very important aspect is this: Put yourself in the position of a third party. See the whole relationship with the manager objectively. Try to develop a positive and conciliatory attitude to him. It is much better to change oneself than to change others to our liking.

From now on fill yourself with positive thoughts about the manager. In your heart forgive him. Whenever you meet the person try to be friendly. Instead of trying to prove him wrong try to make peace with him. As long as you entertaining accusatory, hateful feelings towards any person that will be affecting you negatively causing depression and other problems. Love is the most effective remedy for all evils. You can conquer even the most formidable one by love. Not the commercial or carnal love but the selfless universal love.

One of the life coaches on successful living said; "When you refuse to forgive a person, it is as if you are drinking poison with the conviction that that poison you drink shall kill the other person". So forgive and start a new page in life a positive one. Wishing you all the best.
