Describe how the RICE treatment would be carried out for your friend who has sprained ankle ligaments.

Discuss this question

Question found in Football In General
Even though the RICE treatment method can be used for sprains, if you are not sure about the acuteness of your sprain, then it would be better if you consult with a physician.

Here is an account of the RICE treatment method:

RICE stands for the way of treatment in which four factors are involved and they form the word RICE. They are Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation.

1.Rest: For the first 24-48 hours all the major activities with the effected region must be avoided. All activities that cause pain to the effected area should be curtailed.

2.Ice: Apply Ice bags to the effected area for 20 minutes every 3-4 hours. This can be continued up to 48 hours after the injury. This can prevent or can reduce the amount of swelling in the effected area. Over applying of the Ice to the effected area’s can lead to tissue damage.

3.Compression: Wrap an elastic bandage snugly over the effected region. This wrap should be snug but not too tight.

4.Elevation: Elevate the effected area, above the heart level so that the blood flow to the injury is made a bit slow. This can be done by placing pillows or cushions under the effected area.

How long would it take you in a taxi to get from Puerto De La Cruz to Calla Salvaje?

Discuss this question

Question found in Tourism & Travel
I wasn’t personally able to find the direct distance or info on direct travel by taxi from Puerto De La Cruz to Callao Salvaje. But I can give you the distance information for both these Tenerife resorts from the “Reina Sofia International Airport” which acts as a main entry point to these resorts.

Callao Salvaje, a small residential town and holiday resort, situates on the west coast of Tenerife and is part of the municipal district of Adeje. The distance from “Reina Sofia International Airport” to Callao Salvaje is about 26 Kms and can take about 45 Minutes of travel from the airport through the main TF-1 Motorway. From the airport you can take anyone of the many available taxis, but the rate can vary depending upon various factors like the amount of luggage you have, number of passengers and the time of journey (i.e, day / night).

Puerto de la Cruz, lying at the mouth of the Orotava valley at the northern coast of Tenerife and established in the early 17th century as Puerto da la Orotava, is Tenerife's oldest tourist destination. From “Reina Sofia International Airport” it takes about one and a half hour’s ride to Puerto de la Cruz, because of the rugged terrain through which the motorway snakes.

What are the traditions about coming of age in the Ancient Romans?

Discuss this question

Question found in History In General
In Ancient Rome, a boy was considered as a grown citizen at age 16 or 17. Coming of age, or becoming a citizen, was a day for celebration in ancient Roman families.

Up to Coming of age, a typical Roman boy’s attire consisted of a white tunic, which reached to the length of their knees and having a crimson border. Another special thing, which was part of a Roman Child’s outfit, was a special locket called bulla. It contained an amulet as a protection against evil and was worn on a chain, cord, or strap and was given to them at birth.

On a boy's sixteenth or seventeenth birthday, the boy dressed himself in an all white tunic, which his father adjusted. The day ended with a dinner party, given by the father, in honor of the new Roman citizen. Also on this day the bulla is untied from the neck of the new Roman citizen and is kept for future use.

About Roman Girls coming of age, I was not personally able to find anything except that Roman girls were considered mature for marriage from an age of 12 onwards and Girls wore their bulla until the eve of their wedding day.

Why was the weather forcast east wind rain so important during the 2nd world war?

Discuss this question

Question found in WW2
Let’s start with this alleged transmission from Ministry Foreign Affairs Tokyo, to Japanese diplomats across the Globe on November 19th 1941.

"When crisis leading to worst arises following will be broadcast at end weather reports: one east wind rain war with United States, two north wind cloudy war with Russia, three west wind clear war with Britain including attack on Thailand or Malaya and Dutch Indies. If spoken twice burn codes and secret papers."

From the above given passage from a diplomatic transcript we can find that "East Wind, Rain" was one of the three possible "execute" messages which Japanese diplomats around the world had been alerted.

The words "North Wind, Cloudy," meant war with the Soviet Union, The words "West Wind, Clear," meant war with the British Empire, and The words "East Wind, Rain," meant war with the United States.

In the early morning of December 4th, 1941, at a US Navy short-wave monitoring station in Cheltenham, Maryland senior radio operator Ralph Briggs intercepted this message and immediately teletyped the message to Washington. Apart from Ralph Briggs, this message was received also by other US monitoring stations around the nation, by the monitoring station of the Australian Special Intelligence Organization located near Melbourne, Australia, by the British Intelligence intercept station on Stonecutter's Island, Hong Kong; and of course by Japanese diplomats around the world.

At Washington, DC, at the Japanese embassy, Chief Petty Officer Kenici Ogemoto and Captain Yuzuru Sanematsu, were the one’s who heard the Radio Tokyo announcement, "Higashi no kaze ame" which translates into "East Wind, Rain." Immediately after hearing this staff at the embassy began destroying their cryptographic equipment and code books, while others took the secret documents from their files, piled them in huge heaps, and burned them. This shows that those at the embassy knew that with in day’s Japan will be officially involved in a full fledged war with the United States of America.
So in the war between Japan and USA during World War 2, the words "East Wind, Rain" has much importance

How many British fighter pilots was there during the 2nd World war and how many lost their lives?

Discuss this question

Question found in WW2
I haven't personally come across any solid documents or literature to find the exactness on the number of British Fighter Pilots participated in the Second World War, but a safe estimate would be like this.

During the World War 2 Royal Air Force had a total strength of 1,208,843 individuals (both men and women) and of this total 185, 595 were aircrew. In addition to this an estimated number of 130,000 pilots from the British Commonwealth and around 30,000 of aircrew from Britain’s defeated European Allies also served for Royal Air Force.

Around 70,253 Royal Air Force Personnel lost their life during World War 2 on various operations.
