What is the proper history behind the making of "Fur Elise" by Beethoven?
Discuss this question
| Question found in History In General |
There are many different theories about why or for whom Beethoven composed this famous piece of work.
The popular belief is that 'The Bagatelle in A minor' - WoO59 ("Werk ohne Opuszahl or "work without opus number") known as 'Fur Elise' was written in 1810 for Therese Malfatti - a lady Beethoven was considering marrying at that time. In a letter of May 1810 to Therese, Beethoven refers to the Bagatelle - 'In this letter, beloved Therese, you are receiving what I promised you.' Nothing came of this realtion as Dr.Giovanni Malfatti, a close relative of Therese objected this marriage.
In many people's opinion 'Elise' is a nickname for a young attractive girl, and Beethoven was referring to Therese when using the name Elise.
Another common opinion is that the publisher got confused on the scruffy handwriting of Beethoven and read 'Therese' as 'Elise'.
There are some other group who has the opinion that 'Elise' is some other lady and not 'Therese'.

At the beginning of WWI in 1914 USA's policy was of neutral stance. At the start WWI was viewed as a European conflict. But they did back some of the policies of Britain.
In 1915, a large US passenger liner named Lusitania was sunk by a German U-boat and about 120 people were killed in this attack. US asked for an end to the attacks on passenger liners. But the Germans continued with the unrestricted naval warfare and a further number of US passenger ships were sinked. In February 1917, a German plot to include Mexico as Germany's alli against the U.S was unfoiled. This provoked the US and the then US president Woodrow Wilson requested that Congress declare war on Germany. And they declared war on Germany on April 6, 1917.

Why are Clyde football club nicknamed bully wee?

Discuss this question
| Question found in Football In General |
I don't have a definite answer with me for the reason why Clyde football club is nicknamed bully wee, but I found the following explanation on the Scottish league website.
"The most popularly accepted is that they were a small (wee) club and that 'bully' in the late 19th century was used to define something good or liked (as in the phrase 'bully for you'), hence 'come on the bully wee.' "
You can read it on the following webpage.

What is responsible for the color of the red sea?
Discuss this question
| Question found in Animals & Nature |
Actually, the Red Sea is not red in color. But sometimes it appears that way and it is because of a type of algae called 'Trichodesmium Erythraeum' which is found in the sea. When these blooms of algae die off they appear to turn the blue-green color of the ocean to a reddish-brown.
Another reason can be the region's reddish mineral-rich mountains which reflects off the water giving it a muddy tinge and this made the early travelers call it Mare Rostrum in Latin.
