What materials are used for ear defenders?

Discuss this question

Question found in Education In General
Earmuffs are objects designed to protect a persons ear from both cold and harsh or loud noises. This was invented by Chester Greenwood in 1873.

Thermal Earmuffs are worn as protection against cold conditions and they act as a thermal cover over the ears.

Acoustic Earmuffs act as a protection at loud noisy surroundings. The cups of the earmuff are lined with sound-blocking material ranging from simple linings of PU Foam and cotton wool to electronic devices, which protects ears from ambient noise.

Passive earmuffs have Foam rubber and cotton wool, which are less dense materials, and so the sound waves are not carried through them easily. Sound waves are absorbed and this reduces the amplitude of the waves resulting in less noise. Electronic earmuffs have sophisticated electronic circuits, which modulate the incoming noise.

Dear sammy,

You can manually delete the unused icons on your desktop if you are sure you are not going to need them in future. Or you can use the "Desktop Cleanup wizard" in Windows XP to manage these unused icons. Follow the below given steps to make use of this wizard.

1. Right click on Desktop.

2. Select the "Arrange Icons By" Menu and click on the "Run Desktop Cleanup Wizard" menu item.

3. In the Wizard Click Next and select all those shortcuts that you need to remove Then click Next and then Finish.

5. From now on you can drag unwanted icons direct to this folder.

To re-enable the Master Volume shortcut on the taskbar follow these steps.

1. Click Start Menu. Go to Control Panel and launch "Sounds and Audio Devices".

I forgot my password on facebook and I need to reset my password but my account is under my old email address. How can I retrieve the confirmation code to reset my password?

Discuss this question

Question found in Websites
If you have lost track of the original email id that you used to register your Facebook account then you are in for a tough time. If you still remember the email id, then try resetting it's password and getting it reactivated (the process will vary from provider to provider). If you forgot what the id is then try to have a look at your facebook account profile page from a colleagues or friends account. Once that email id is found then try reactivating it.

Once you have access to your old email id then simply visit the facebook reset password page and follow the steps.

With out having access to the original id, things get a little difficult. As like other web services facebook doesnt have an option to reset passwords based on some secret questions and answers. Any way you can visit the below given page on facebook site and file a note there.

You can also contact facebook on this id - info@facebook.com - and explain your situation along with the security question and answer on your profile and hope for the best.

Please go through this page on their site too.

What was the first man made invention that travelled faster than sound?

Discuss this question

Question found in Science In General
I think the first man made invention that traveled faster than sound would be a bullwhip. When whipped correctly the tip of the bullwhip can easily break the sound barrier as it can travel over an astounding 700 Mphs and can create a sharp crack—literally a sonic boom - while it breaks the sound barrier.

As our expert Mr. Craig Brownell has stated in his answer cannon balls and bullets also broke the sound barrier before airplanes achieved this feat. Air Force Captain Charles "Chuck" Yeager is considered as the first person to break the sound barrier in an airplane when he flew his in a Bell X-1 On 14 October 1947 on a test mission.

Discussion:

Mr. Nair is entirely correct about the crack of a whip and very likely correct about it being the first man made invention to break the sound barrier.

Why do cats do fur balls?

Discuss this question

Question found in Animals & Nature In General
Cats groom themselves by licking and by doing so they get the fur enter their digestive system. Their tongues are like rasp and so while licking the tiny barbs at their tongue dislodge a lot of loose hair and they are swallowed. In small quantities these hair can pass out of the digestive tract through feces, but sometimes this can build up and form a ball. This is usually passed out of the body by vomiting and these knots or sausages of fur or hair is called a Furball (Trichobezoar as they are called scientifically).

This can cause minor to serious health issues in your cat, so getting advice from a vet is suggested.
