Does Vitalism have anything to do with God?

Discuss this question

Question found in Religion & Spirituality In General
I think it does, as does It all. How does one define God. Is God the Invisible Grandfather in the sky, or is God the The Force as in the Star Wars sagas?
There have been Far too many ghost sightings for 1000s of years for me to wholly discount the concept of a soul or vital controlling force. I find it interesting that people can believe in souls, angels, God, demons but not believe in ghosts. I believe that a ghost is the manifestation of the vital force and we are all part of God, therefore "vitalism" is part of God. Science is also part of God and scientists will tell people that there are things we just don't yet understand. We are not IN the mind of God so we cannot suppose to KNOW THE MIND of God. I do not believe that we should limit God by holding him to a limiting concept.
By the way, the Big Bang theory was proposed by a Catholic Priest - http://starchild.gsfc.nasa.gov/docs/StarChild/universe_level2/cosmology.html

Hi I was wondering about Venice, Italy. Was it built in the water or was it flooded?

Discuss this question

Question found in Tourism & Travel
The Venetian region has (in human memory) always been a swamp or marsh. No known records of the founding of Venice are known to exist. The current belief is that Venice is a result of an influx of war refugees into the Po estuary around 166-168 AD. The water levels fluctuate but lately the water levels have been on a rise.

The following is a direct copy/paste from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venice,_Italy

Venice is world-famous for its canals. It is built on an archipelago of 118 islands formed by about 150 canals in a shallow lagoon. The islands on which the city is built are connected by about 400 bridges. In the old center, the canals serve the function of roads, and every form of transport is on water or on foot. In the 19th century a causeway to the mainland brought a railway station to Venice, and an automobile causeway and parking lot was added in the 20th century. Beyond these land entrances at the northern edge of the city, transportation within the city remains, as it was in centuries past, entirely on water or on foot. Venice is Europe's largest urban carfree area, unique in Europe in remaining a sizable functioning city in the 21st century entirely without motorcars or trucks.

Does a compass work on the moon?

Discuss this question

Question found in Space & Astronomy
No, there is no navigable magnetic field on the moon as there is on earth. Nasa has developed a latitude and longitude grid for navigation. Further navigation on the moon is done as in pre-compass days of shooting a known star and triangulation of known land masses.

What would have happened if Christ hadn't followed "his destiny"?

Discuss this question

Question found in Bible Studies
Anyone's guess but here are my thoughts...
Those in the middle east would be Jewish and probably Muslim (Islamic). Asia would be Buddhist and Hindu. (You will note that this is effectively unchanged). The biggest difference would be the Spanish inquisition would not have existed. The parts of the world that missionaries flock to would still likely embrace their beliefs. Rome would probably still be "Pagan". The UK would have a surviving Druid population and the American Indigenous people would still have their beliefs. Churches would not likely be the huge money making organizations. It is possible to extract further to say the UK might never have developed an Empire and we might be speaking Latin instead of English, French etc. Much of conquering new lands was done in the name of God and the King/queen. One could only guess the needs to conquer without Christian religious "superiority" as a driving force. But then again every major religion including Buddhism has undergone a violent enterprising and establishing phase. Some scholars note that the followers of Islam are early enough in the development of the religion that it is following the same violent establishment phase as Buddhism, Judaism and Christianity (Scientology next? :)) )
I further expect that for Yeshua (Jesus) to fly in the face of God's Will would not be a wise thing and God might have just moved on to a different person and we might never know anything different.
I would not suppose to know the mind of God and anyone that does limits God by doing so.

I know only php. Installing php in IIS is not so user friendly. Can I install Apache and php in my windows system. Please tell me the stepwise methods to host a site in my computer.

Discuss this question

Question found in Internet Technology
As far as I know, you will have to obtain a fixed or static IP. Check with your local cable company as many of them are offering broadband with fixed IP for cheaper than the local ISP/Telco.
Easyphp has a sql engine, php and apache all built in and it is free. The dl site is

How do I find the boundaries to my properties?

Discuss this question

Question found in Home & Garden In General
The county clerk or records should have the actual plot maps of your land your neighbor's properties.
Usually (but not always) there is a "benchmark" to start from in the measurements. A bench mark is usually a metal disk or post planted into the ground. They are usually physically marked with an ID number so the surveyors can identify the proper benchmark on the map. The maps typically will have the abbreviation "BM" at the benchmark location. From there, you can measure to the start of the property and set a marker. If you are confident in the marker, use this marker to measure the distances to each point of the property and set another marker. It is usually best to measure from your starting marker for the first two sides to reduce chances of deviation.

If you have an Accurate GPS (TO within an inch or so) and the map shows the lat/long of the property. It is much easier.

When in doubt, (especially in really odd shaped properties - like stars etc) hire a competent surveyor. This is especially useful if you have a problem neighbor and you are setting a fence to establish the demarcation line of the properties.

I am looking for a biography on 1930s40s jazz singer Connie Boswell. Was one ever written?

Discuss this question

Question found in Popular Music
There does not appear to have been a bio ever published in book form on Connie(Connee) Boswell. There are however many web sites with "bio-bytes" but nothing of real substance (as I am sure you already know). There is only a 53 page discography of the Boswell Sisters* but even that is out of print and hard to obtain.
