Where can I find a person to create a resume for me?

Discuss this question

Question found in Business & Economy In General
There are many typing services - usually near colleges and universities, and many of them are starting to specialize in various activities due to the fact that computers are now commonplace. Some of them would certainly specialize in resumes. There are also resume companies online that specialize in executive CVs and resumes. Check the local phone listings for the typing/secretarial service. Then if still unsatisfied contact one of the resume services. The advantage to the typing service over the resume service is the locality and service levels.
There are some resume builder applications online as well - usually attached to the job finder boards.
Good luck!

Why do people live near active volcanoes?

Discuss this question

Question found in Cultures In General
Yes, volcanic soil is very fertile. Volcanoes also generate new land for people to settle on. Many people who originally settled near volcanoes, did so because it was an Island and they were seaborne and have moved on from their original homes because of exploration, wars or disease. High volcanic cones are easier to spot at sea versus low lying atolls or coral reef islands so therefore a boat would more likely sail to an easy to find island thereby settling near a volcano. Add the fertile bit back into it, new land with food support = survival. High cones can also provide a good lookout point for spotting other boats, enemy or otherwise. Most volcanoes will not go off in the span of a humans life, so in most cases they would seem safe to live near.

To what extent has minority influence been shown to be a significant form of social influence?

Discuss this question

Question found in Sociology
Minority influence has had a significant effect on society as a whole. Just the Black/African American influence itself has had a significant influence globally. Music, Sports, Poetry, Movies and literature are principle to this influence. Jazz music started in the black community around the turn of the 20th (1900s) century. It spread quickly to Europe (especially France) and beyond. Black musicians in the US were oppressed due to racial discrimination but in France they were stars in their own right, such as Josephine Baker and Louis Armstrong. Jazz is currently huge in Japan. Rap music is heard globally and performed by many different races now but it started in the Black inner city communities.
Japanese samurai movies have influenced US westerns and so on.
Minority influence is so interwoven into the global fabric, it is almost invisible.

My 1 year old daughter has been sleeping all day and just seems really tired today. She hasn't played or anything today and is not her normal self. She feels chilled but has no temperature. She ate a little bit and drank some milk but that's about it. Is there something wrong with her?

Question found in Parenting & Family In General
As above, I am not a doctor but a parent. I am somewhat familiar with certain aspects of medicine through peripheral exposure.
If she is listless and "not herself", it is definitely worth calling the doctor. An illness does not always present itself with a fever. Extended sleeping can indicate that the body is attempting to repair itself. "Chills" can mean many things, some serious others not so serious. Pedialyte is better than Gatorade or other sports drinks and it is good to have it on hand just in case. Sugars in Gatorade, sodas and other drinks can make dehydration worse.
If this continues, please call the doctor.

Is recycling the answer to the problem of waste disposal?

Discuss this question

Question found in Alternative In General
Again, yes it is part of the solution. The issues still lie with the amount of energy it takes to recycle materials. In many cases, it takes more energy to recycle then it does to create from raw materials. There is also the usability versus demand factor. Plastics have a limited number of times they can be recycled. Plastics are usually reworked in to a pellet or grain and then formed into the new product such as shoe laces. With the limited demand of near-life-end plastics available, a considerable amount of recycled plastic is finding its way into the landfills. If you consider the resources used to recycle the plastic only to have it end up in land fill, you have a considerable and unreclaimable loss of energy for the sake of "feel good". Nuclear incineration maybe an answer in the future but with the laws of conservation of energy and mass, we can't just make it disappear. One of the keys is to reuse before we recycle!

What is the most important ancient megalithic construction?

Discuss this question

Question found in Cultures In General
I don't think that there is one particular "megalithic" construct that is the most important. Of the original "7 Wonders of the Ancient World" only one still exists and it is the Great Pyramid of Giza. Only one of the 3 great pyramids is on the list, and that is the Great Pyramid of Khufu (Cheops). It is located in Giza which is now part of "Greater Cairo".
To refresh, the Seven Wonders are:
1. The Great Pyramid of Khufu (Cheops)
2. The Hanging Gardens of Babylon (which may have never actually existed)
3. The Statue of Zeus at Olympia
4. The Temple of Artemis at Ephesus.(Reputed to be most beautiful structure built)
5. The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus
6. The Colossus of Rhodes
7. The Lighthouse of Alexandria

Are books better than computers for children just learning to read?

Discuss this question

Question found in Computers In General
I agree that overall books are better than computers in teaching a child to read. However, it falls to the parents to interact with and support the child in his/her learning endeavors. A parent, that is not particularly well versed, may have difficulty prompting or correcting the errors that a child would be prone to make during their attempts to read.
A computer programme that is well designed and properly constructed may well beat out an ill-prepared parent. Making it fun to learn by instant feedback is crucial to keep the little minds interested. Children have very short attention spans, which may frustrate parents which in turn may frustrate the child.
The added advantage is, the child learns the computer basics at a young age which can only help him/her in the future school and job prospects.
Once the child has the basics down and can navigate through a basic text, nothing beats a book! A computer or TV would never match a child's fertile imagination!
My wife and I are avid readers of a myriad of subjects. Our daughter is 4, she can read and is more advanced on the computer than many of her grandparent's generation.
