My sister and I along with our mother are on the deed to mother's house. When our mother dies (she won't make a will), will being named on the deed to her house be considered an inheritance or will we have to declare the property as income? Should we try to get her to name us as beneficiaries?

Question found in Real Estate Law
Probably better would be for mom to establish a Trust and name you and sis as junior Trustees. She then transfers the real estate and other significant property (vehicles, etc.) into the Trust. At that point, she will still have absolute control over the property. You and sis cannot do anything while she is alive, but the Trust will revert to the junior Trustees upon her death.

No taxes and the property held in Trust cannot be attached by a court judgment. This is much better than a Will if she would have bequeathed everything to the two of you anyway.

This is how O.J. Simpson avoided paying much of the wrongful death judgment. He is a dirtbag, but he had good financial advice. His NFL retirement account is held in Trust.

Locate a responsible estate planner in your area. Shop around, don't just hire the first one you encounter. For a reasonable fee, they can help you through a number of perfectly legal "tricks" that can avoid taxes and shield the property from most seizures.

A word of caution. Do NOT, under any circumstances, allow the estate planner or any third party to have management control over the Trust or to be named in it in any way. If they insist upon this, your BS meter should climb right up to the peg. It means they want control of mom's assets. While not necessarily the case, this would be a perfect opportunity for an unethical person to bleed the Trust dry without your ever knowing it. You are hiring them for advice and assistance, not management of assets.

I am considering using a sunbed for a couple of weeks prior to holidaying abroad however I use Gamma Hydroxy cream to reduce acne scarring on my face and I have heard that I cannot use sunbeds whilst using this cream due to side effects. Is this correct?

Discuss this question

Question found in Health & Fitness In General
I can't seem to locate any fact sheets that bear out the warning you "heard".

There should be a full sheet of instructions and precautions with the product. You could also contact the manufacturer for a specific answer.

How to and why you need to share information with individuals key people and others?

Discuss this question

Question found in Miscellaneous
Your question is horribly vague and cannot be answered with any responsibility.

Please cite the situation, conditions and other factors. Please avoid excessive use of pronouns (he, she, etc.) Call them Person A, Person B, etc. so it can be understood who did what to whom, when, etc.

It will also be very helpful to understand the legal jurisdiction. Laws and customs vary and we cannot know where this is taking place if you do not state as much. SE is an international web site. We cannot know if this is in India, Tasmania or the U.S. unless you say so.

If you expect a responsible and useful response, you must provide more detail.

She needs to see her doctor right away.

It could be a recurrence or a totally new situation. Her health is not right and neglecting it could have very serious consequences.

Son locked keys in car. How do I get in to retrieve them?

Discuss this question

Question found in Auto Technology
Many police officers in the U.S. carry tools that will allow them to gain entry to a locked car and some will do this at no charge with proof of ownership.

Otherwise, a qualified locksmith will be your best solution. They can usually come to the car's location, but there will be a charge for the service.

Tow truck drivers can usually do this too and are generally cheaper than a locksmith.

What is the cause of dark yellow urine?

Discuss this question

Question found in Fitness & Wellbeing
Unless you have a medical condition causing this, it is usually simple dehydration. Even if you are only a little thirsty, your body is trying to communicate with you. Heed the message and drink some water.

Normal urine should be pale yellow to nearly clear. If you are not drinking enough water, your urine will be darker in color.

Beverages containing caffeine (coffee, some soft drinks) or alcohol can cause further dehydration as can salty foods and certain medications.

My 1 year old son has got red poo is there anything to worry about?

Discuss this question

Question found in Parenting & Family In General
If it is blood, this is a medical emergency. Get him to a doctor immediately and bring a sample if possible. Children can be desperately ill and not show overt symptoms until they suddenly "crash".

Consider his diet. At his age, his tender digestive system may not process some foods with dyes or food coloring. Our three-year old son used to like a multi-colored breakfast cereal that produced rainbow stools.

What is used to disguise the smell of dead bodies in a morgue?

Discuss this question

Question found in Miscellaneous
In a formal morgue, such as a hospital or medical examiner's office, the answer is refrigeration. Literally, a "meat locker". Individual lockers and/or entire rooms.

Air fresheners and other chemistry could compromise autopsy results. Sometimes indirect UV lighting can limit free bacteria in the air which cause odor, but these are to prevent cross-contamination and infections from spreading.

In hasty morgues, such as a battle or disaster scene, body bags help control contamination and odor to some degree and facilitate easier handing of the bodies. These are often used in formal morgues for the same reason.

Morgue workers learn to breathe through their mouths to limit exposure and sometimes wear masks. This helps some, but odors can be quite powerful depending upon the degree of decomposition. In some cases, nothing helps and you simply have to "grit it out".

Own a small business and run it from home via the Internet. I have broadband and a wireless router, thus enabling me to stay connected to the Internet around the house and in the garden. However, when I go on holiday I find it impossible to find WiFi Hotspots where I can access the Internet via my laptop for free. I don't really understand wireless networking but I wanted to know if there is a really powerful router that would let me access my own network everywhere in the world or something like that? thanks

Question found in Internet Technology
There is no WiFi signal that will extend beyond your home for more than a short distance.

There are WiFi detectors that can inform you if there is a WiFi signal in the area and how strong it may be. This does not mean you will be able to connect, though. Many will be private and password protected. You can purchase a wristwatch, T-shirt or a Digital Detector from the following source. The Digital Detector will be the most informative (encryption, passwords, etc.):

If you can locate an internet connection (preferably high-speed), there is a subscription application that will allow you to log on to your system at home as if you were sitting in front of it: http://www.gotomypc.com

Can electricity be generated from cold fusion?

Discuss this question

Question found in Physics
At this point in time, scientists have been unsuccessful in attempts to replicate the results of those who claim to have accomplished cold fusion.

Discussion:

Since cold fusion is not reproducible this question is mute. It's certainly possible if cold fusion were a fact of nature, but it isn't yet so everything about it is purely imagined and therefore unreal. I think this answer deserves a 5.
