I had a baby back in 1999 and it has recently come to my attention that one of my doctors bills was not paid. I did have insurance at that time and all other bills were paid by that insurance. Is that insurance company still responsible for that bill? How long do insurance companies have to keep records? Also how long do doctor's offices have to keep records?

Discuss this question

Question found in Legal Other
Most business in the U.S. have to keep financial records for seven years for tax purposes.

Determine who(m) was responsible for submitting the bill to your insurer.

If the insurance was in force at the time, it should apply retroactively unless timely submission is a factor.

If the insurer rejects the bill for lack of timely submission, the party responsible for submitting the bill may end up being responsible for it.

In many U.S. states, there is a statute of limitations on how much time can elapse between a creditor's awareness of the debt and their standing in litigation. In most U.S. states, this is two years.

If the debtor (you) genuinely had no awareness of this bill and the date of service is almost seven years ago, you might put the doctor in touch with the insurer, but it is improbable that you will be ultimately held responsible for it.

My husband and I are up to our ears in debt. We have a rental house that is mortgaged to the hilt. There may be at the most $10,000 in equity. While the home was being rented, one of the tenants and his brother came into my husband business and held him down and almost beat him to death. They took off out of state and we can't find them, so now we also are $12,000 in medical bills cause I was laid off and we had no health insurance.

We are about 25,000 dollars in debt to credit cards too. If we filed for bankruptcy, would they take one of our homes? The reason I ask is because our home we live in will be paid off in 6 yrs, and the other home has my husband business on it, and if we sell this house, my husband loses his job.; We can't get a second mortgage on the home we live in cause our credit is so bad, and the bank says we have more going out then coming in.

What can we do? We are besides ourselves. Everyday I do nothing but cry, .

Question found in Legal In General
With the new law in the U.S., you may not be able to discharge all of your credit card debt.

However, you will be permitted to "redeem" your mortgage. This means that you won't lose your primary residence. Figure out which house you want to keep and find a COMPETENT bankruptcy attorney.

The longer you wait, the worse it will become.

Hello, I have a major electric problem. I bought a 1100 square foot house 4 yrs. ago, total electric. Until we moved in the thermostat was kept at 45 degrees. The system we used was a heat pump and forced air unit.

Our electric bills were over $500.00 a month.

We were told it was because we were heating a empty house.

After we moved in the electric bill was still the same (this is for nov, dec, jan, feb, march, april).

We had the meter check. The elec. company put two separate meters on, and they said they were reading fine. So we insulated the house to the hilt, even putting spray foam in little areas like around cable wires coming into the house, in the crawl space where there were cracks. We insulated the crawlspace with a spray insulation. The the elec.company told us that the trouble was that our coil in our forced air unit was dirty. We had these cleaned out professionally.

Still the bill was running at 6,ooo a month which the electric company said was extraordinary large amount of wattage. So then they come out and tell us that our heat pump and auxiliary heat is running at the same time and the heat pump is no good. (It was 18 yrs. old). and the fact we needed more returns. So we spent $12,000.00 and put in a Bryant 16 Seers, 2 speed heat pump and forced air unit. We also had all new insulated duct work put in, and had 5 large returns added. Our elec. company technicians told us that our electric bill would drop dramatically; because we had done everything we need to do, and even re-insulated the attic to, and had blown in insulation into the walls. Got my electric bill and it was just as high as ever. I'm ready to burn this damn house down and go live in a hut. All of our appliances are energy savers and new. We only have 2 TVs that don't run that long. We have had our water heater checked. Everything. Could problems leading from the pole or underground wiring cause such a extreme amount of usage. Everyone is shocked. Please contact me asap, I have a match in one hand and a gallon of gasoline. I'm ready to burn this baby. my email address: dreamercgl@tds.net

thank you.

You don't say where you live. I'm in Minnesota and all-electric radiant or forced-air heat up here is notoriously inefficient and expensive.

We have 1800sf and our monthly natural gas bill is $100 (budget) year round (incl. water, sewer, garbage and recycling).

From your description, it sounds like the folks who were helping you might have been guessing at solutions (at your expense).

As much money as you have into this now, it might be a good idea to hire a HVAC engineer for a couple of hours to take an impartial look at your situation. This might cost you a few hundred dollars, but the engineer will probably arrive at a workable solution rather than try this. Now this. O.K., now this. You've already been through that routine.

The first thing that occurs to me is a loose connection in the main power panel or near the meter. Something is drawing a huge amount of power. If the power company says your meter readings are normal for your heat system, I'd scrap it and go with gas, if available. The first year savings would probably make a huge dent in the initial cost.

Just for grins, look around for unlawful connections to your house. It would not be unheard of for a neighbor to help themselves with a hidden connection.

What is bipolar disorder?

Discuss this question

Question found in Disabilities
Bipolar disorder is what used to be called manic-depressive.

Sufferers can be manic (overly outgoing, upbeat, etc.) at one time and depressive (withdrawn, introspective, even suicidal) at other times.

These are the extremes of normal human emotional states. While most normal folks can have mood variances, they do not usually approach such marked extremes.

My space (home) has been used as storage space!! What do I need to do legally to get it out?

Discuss this question

Question found in Legal Other
You don't indicate by whom, for how long or under what agreement or arrangements.

Generally, if you accepted the situation in any way at some point in time, you should provide 30 days' WRITTEN NOTICE by PROVEN delivery (or proven multiple attempts) at the owner's last known address. If they do not remove their property, you might be able to dispose of it as abandoned.

All of this depends on where you live. Different countries (and states) have differing laws on this.

See if there is a landlord's association or if you know a couple of REPUTABLE landlords you could ask. BE CAREFUL! Not all landlords operate within the law, so take their opinions with a grain of salt.

I clipped wing mirrors with a motorist outside school, I got out of the car and with witnesses checked my car for damage-there was no damage. The other driver continued to drive on. Have they any come back on me once checking their vehicle as they did not stop?

Question found in Human Rights
It depends on where you live.

It also depends on whether they managed to get your license plate number.

Reasonably, when someone leaves the scene of an accident, any subsequent claims they might make become suspect.

I heard once of a serial rapist that was a women, is there any truth in that? Is it possible for a women to rape a man?

Discuss this question

Question found in Legal Other
Assuming the rape involves an unwilling male victim, "normal" sexual intercourse would not likely occur. It would be difficult for a truly unwilling male to achieve an erection. However, an underaged male cannot legally consent to sex even if he is willing. A woman could restrain the victim, or she could anally penetrate a man with something. All of these would be rape.
