My former spouse and I are planning to reconcile our family. As I have a teenage son from a previous marriage, and we have three small children together, what would ensure that my son and I moving into my former spouse's house would be a wise decision, in case he decides to throw us out...what is the best option to ensure the safe return of our personal belongings that would be placed in his home and possibly his storage unit? What, if anything would ensure me some interest in the home we plan to purchase (probably unmarried) as well as knowing that he will have to support us in the event we do not remarry? And, am I obligated to return a ring that was a gift...given me recently from him...whether or not we marry? And visa versa?

It sounds as if you have some serious reservations. Whatever legal steps you might take, it might be better to postpone the combined living arrangements until everyone feels more comfortable and/or secure.

How do I file taxes after bankruptcy?

Discuss this question

Question found in Real Estate Law
You file as you always would.

You might wish to engage the services of a CPA if there are tax issues specific to your bankruptcy. It shouldn't be terribly expensive. I have my personal and business taxes done by a CPA and it only runs about $300/yr. That may sound like a great deal of money, but it could save you thousands in taxes.

Why can't felon's vote?

Discuss this question

Question found in Legal Other
Depending upon the jurisdiction, felons may lose many civil rights. These can include the right to vote, the right to own a firearm, the "right" (actually a privilege in most jurisdictions) to have a driver's license and many other rights enjoyed by law-abiding citizens in the US.

Time in prison is not the only penalty for committing a serious crime.

In most US jurisdictions, felonies are crimes punishable by imprisonment for a term of at least one year.

It should not be a surprise to anyone that behaviors constituting a felony might be unlawful. Felonies are generally very serious crimes and no one over the age of 12 should have any questions that the behavior might have been unlawful.

If my ex wife gets a judgement filed against me from another state...how easy is it to collect from me if I am self employed?

Discuss this question

Question found in Legal In General
Almost impossible unless you have identifiable assets that you cannot move after being ordered to identify them.

Once you disclose your bank accounts, you can close them and put your money elsewhere. Even in the same bank, but open new accounts. The order only requires disclosure, it does not freeze your assets.

Real estate will be more difficult to shuffle, but filing a real estate lien is a bit more expensive than attaching a checking account.

Find a professional deadbeat and buy him lunch. You could get the education of a lifetime. You may find this useful if you need to collect on a deadbeat.

Why does a person feel a draught when standing near a fiercely burning fire?

Discuss this question

Question found in Firefighting & Fire Prevention
The fire consumes oxygen and warms the air around it causing it to rise, reducing the air pressure around the fire.

Air in the vicinity moves towards the fire to equalize the pressure, causing a draft.

When this happens very rapidly, it makes noise. The surrounding air breaks the sound barrier to fill in the space. It is the >snap< you hear when a spark jumps from your finger to a doorknob or thunder following a lightning stroke.

I am a ex bankrupt and looking for car finance but keep being declined. Where can I go to get finance please?

Discuss this question

Question found in Miscellaneous
If your applications are being rejected due to insufficient income, nothing but improving your employment situation will help.

If the rejections are because of poor credit history (bankruptcy), you need to rebuild some creditworthiness.

One of the easiest ways to begin is to obtain a secured credit card. It functions in all respects as a normal credit card, however, you have placed a security deposit of a predetermined amount of cash with the card issuer. You charge purchases to the card and pay the bill as you would with any other credit card. However, your credit limit will not exceed the amount of your security deposit.

As you demonstrate credit responsibility, the card issuer may extend your credit limit beyond the security deposit amount. This will take time, however. Creditworthiness is not demonstrated overnight, it is a consistent history of timely repayment. The longer the period, the better the view of your creditworthiness. Building good credit takes time and diligence on your part.

Hi, I have a problem with my Ford Focus tddi 99 reg. I switched it off and when I went to start it 1 hour later it would not start. Any suggestions please?

Discuss this question

Question found in Automobiles In General
It will not start AT ALL or it will start, but only after significant effort?

You might have a leaky purge valve and it is allowing fuel to seep out of the rail. Remove the vacuum line from the diaphragm on the fuel rail and inspect the inside of the hose for wetness/gasoline. If so, replace the purge valve.

Depending on temperature, fuel in the rail might be boiling causing a vapor lock.

If the engine cranks, but does not start, only two things are responsible; lack of fuel or lack of spark. Start there and you should find the problem quickly.

A simple IRA contributions are deductible from gross income before taxes, but the IRA proceeds are taxable.

Is it against human rights to tape record someone without their prior consent?

Discuss this question

Question found in Human Rights
I don't know that it's a human rights violation and it depends on the reason for recording the conversation.

In some jurisdictions, it is illegal to record someone without their knowledge, in others, it is totally permissible.

Whether or not such a recording will be a violation of law and/or admissible in court will also depend upon the jurisdiction.

I would not dream of recording a friendly conversation, but I would not hesitate to record a business transaction if the situation warranted.

Many police officers now wear personal recorders and have them active when interviewing people during traffic stops, etc.

Equally, you have a right to remain silent when dealing with the police (U.S.).

Why do people speed?

Discuss this question

Question found in Human Rights
I assume that you mean while driving.

In over forty years of driving, part of which was as a police officer, it has been my observation that speeders are largely either under the impression that they are saving time or it's simply for the thrill.

Of those who believe that they're saving substantial time, in reality, it's only an impression. This is because the "rush" of driving fast makes them FEEL as if they're accomplishing something, even if it's insignificant.

In a trip of thirty miles, a speeder at 65mph in a 55mph zone will "save" five minutes and spend almost 27 minutes risking tickets and accidents.

If they're in that big a hurry, they should leave earlier.
