Can we improve the standard of living in developing countries?

Discuss this question

Question found in Miscellaneous
Yes we can and we are.
If you look at the success of "Band Aid" et al as well as the charities that are advertising on TV you will see that we are making some headway. Some have reduced or removed third world debts as well, so every little helps. :)
But too be fair nothing will really change a great deal until the richer countries have an incentive to invest their money in bigger amounts in long term schemes.

Why do people spend so much money at Christmas time?

Discuss this question

Question found in Miscellaneous
Merry Christmas!
It is the one day that they can make up for all times that they rushed around forgetting to give to others? The other possible reason is that they get carried away with all the commercial hype and end up spending more then they knew they should. But you are right it does seem a little excessive at how much people will spend at this time of year and they can't say that all of it is because they want to make their children's Christmas happier.

I hope yours is a happy one. :)
Take care

If I miss my period am I pregnant?

Discuss this question

Question found in Parenting & Family In General
Hi,
Not necessarily but the probabilities don't go in your favour the longer it is after you were supposed to have started.
If it is only a week or so and you have this happen before than I wouldn't be overly worried but if not then you may need to view your options.

There are other variables to also consider as you have not mentioned some of these I am not able to your fears so I will mention them now.
If you are under twenty then a women's cycle can be a little hit and miss. If you are suffering any form of stress than that can also make your system a little unpredictable.

Have a think about it and if you are still unsure come back to me directly or buy a pregnancy test kit and see what that says, the results will depend on how long since your last period.

Hello there,
It is spelt Fuglebinder and it seems to have many a varied meaning, and some seem to have gone in to folk lore!

If anyone has seen "Cocktail" then it is mentioned in the film that it is the plastic stop bit at the end of the lace.

It turns out to be a machine that helps in farming, you really do not want me to carry it on now............zzzzzzzz

Who is considered to be the greatest scientist in the history of astronomy? Why?

Discuss this question

Question found in Space & Astronomy
I don't think that there is or will ever be a conclusive answer to that as it is so subjective. There are so many to choose from like Isambard Kingdom Brunel, Einstein, Newton, Baird, Jennings, Dawkins. If you also included the new kids on the block, then you could say Dyson or that bloke who invented the wind up radio. For me it is the Ancients, the untold heroes who did so much and they are now just beginning to get the credit for it, so what about giving that accolade to Adam Hart-Davies for helping bring so much unknown history and inventions to life! :)

What do you think?
Take care......
