What substance besides soap will cause surface tension on water?

Discuss this question

Question found in Science In General
Soap doesn't, it removes it!

Put some oil in a container, and watch it make a rainbow.
Then let a drop of washing up liquid fall on to it and the oil runs to the edge of the container.
The layer on the water that the oil sits on is the surface tension that allows insects to "walk" on water. Soap breaks that layer not makes it.

Can a school insist that a 13 year child must shower after a games lesson? The school is a comprehensive school.

Discuss this question

Question found in Education In General
Hello there,
No they can't force a child to shower. How would they know that they hadn't?
They can't stand and supervise as that would infringe the human rights.

The bottom line here is interference, I wouldn't shower at school due to the fact that you can't trust the other kids to leave your stuff alone. So I always use to wait til I got home. Your child has the same choice, so please don't let your child be "bullied". Where does the school rank on your borough's tables?
Behind every action there is a story.

Take care

If I go to an interview for a "PARTICULAR JOB" BUT my "EDUCATIONAL AND OTHER QUALIFICATION" is much much "HIGHER THAN" what is required for the job, then,

I am in this case very very likely to be asked by the interviewer the following question:

1) "YOUR QUALIFICATION IS MUCH HIGHER THAN REQUIRED FOR THIS JOB, YOU CAN APPLY FOR A HIGHER POSITION, THEN, WHY ARE YOU APPLYING FOR THIS POSITION?"

2) "LOOKING AT YOUR QUALIFICATION I DOUBT WHETHER YOU WILL REMAIN WITH US IF I GIVE YOU THIS JOB. THIS IS BECAUSE YOUR QUALIFICATION IS SUCH THAT YOU ARE VERY LIKELY TO MOVE ON. NOW IN SUCH CASE WHY SHOULD I GIVE YOU THIS JOB IF I FEEL YOU WILL SOON LEAVE THE JOB?

Now the problem is that for some silly reason I want "ONLY THIS JOB" although it is possible I can get better ones.

DEAR EXPERTS, PLEASE ADVICE ME ON HOW AT AN INTERVIEW SHOULD I HANDLE THE ABOVE TWO QUESTIONS.

Lots of Love,

Rupert Symss

Question found in Interview Advice
Hello there,
To answer this question fully you need to look at it from two differing perspectives.

As a potential employee and the open but cautious potential employer.

As a employee, it maybe the case that this company doesn't have any vacancies at your qualified level so you are after a foot in the door. You may have checked them out via the interweb and like their philosophies etc.
Or any other attributes that you may feel make this company attractive, compare yourself with what they offer to how you are personality wise.

As a potential employer I am always suspect if someone comes to an interview who is overly qualified, and i will have to be cautious for the following reasons.

Firstly: if they do not feel that they are worth more than this vacancy, when there must be others advertised with other companies, then what could that tell me about them? Low self esteem, lack of confidence, afraid of success??

Secondly: If I employed them how long will they stay? Until they lost even more confidence, so I would have to carry them on the oft chance that they find themselves??

Thirdly: If I had to let them go how much would it cost my company? In time, money and loss of face........

Without meaning to sound rude, which i am not, what would this tell you Rupert about anyone that you were to interview?

My seven year old niece is going to be in a beauty pageant at her school. Should she wear makeup or will that hurt her chances of winning?

Discuss this question

Question found in Miscellaneous
I suspect that will depend on what the standards of the school are. Can you chat with anyone who may have sent their daughters to some before or check with the head teacher?

On a general level if you don't paint it on and just use it for affect then I wouldn't have thought there would be a problem but I suspect that it would be prudent to follow my opening advise.

How do you get a cold?

Discuss this question

Question found in Health & Fitness In General
You become infected with the cold or flu virus.
We have been unable to totally remove the world of this annoying malay as viruses are notoriously difficult to eradicate as they are constantly evolving.
As soon as we make one vaccine that helps with one strain it changes and that vaccine no longer works.

You can help yourself to lessen the number of times you get one or the severity when you do by eating foods that contain Zinc and by having a regular exercise routine. By using methods like this your system is better able to combat the symptoms so you will feel better quicker.

How is pleurisy cured?

Discuss this question

Question found in Health & Fitness In General
Pleurisy is an infection of the Pleura, this is the lining that separates the lungs from the chest wall. When this lining is normal then the lungs can inflate and deflate smoothly. When the lining is infected in some way then the lining can be felt rubbing and pain and discomfort can be felt.

In most cases, although this does depend on the cause, the condition is treated by "nonsteroidal" anti-inflammatory drugs. Drugs will also be prescribed to combat the underlying cause, antibiotics or anticoagulants.

For most people the condition clears up 7-10 days after treatment has started.

Being a manager how to motivate employees to achieve more in production?

Discuss this question

Question found in Business & Economy In General
To motivate anyone, especially if they are prone to apathy and indiscipline, you need to get back to basics. Ask yourself what motivates you? What gets you out of bed and money will not be top of the list for the more successful among us by the way, although they will tell you emphatically that it is!

All people are driven by two things: Fear & Reward. Find the one that is the key for your staff and you will get them to do whatever you want, ask B&Q.

If you would like a more indepth explanation then please send me an email.

How do I promote sales being a marketing manager of a company manufacturing leather goods?

Discuss this question

Question found in Business & Economy In General
Promote it to whom?
Your staff or your customers?? Or even both??????

Lets assume it's your staff. This question is related to one that i have already answered in this section, was it from you?

What value does the sales of leather goods mean to your company?
It means keeping jobs and expansion to make more jobs, pay rises, benefits/bonuses etc. So a lack of sales then would have the opposite results would it not? So the people who are not able to grasp this logic then logically are being carried by those who do!

So although i have been a little black and white, which is a language we both understand, don't forget to incorporate these ideas in a more diplomatical way when you express them to your staff. The trick here is to share a positive vision while making valid point without scaring everyone s@@tless.:)

What would you say is the greatest strengths and weakness? How do you answer this in an interview?

Discuss this question

Question found in Interview Advice
I take it that you mean yours?

Think of three activities, either at work, hobby, sport etc. What do you have that links all three?

I play golf, so I tend to be goal orientated, methodical with a flair of creativitiy thrown in. I'm results driven and don't allow my emotional insecurities to cloud my abilities to get the job done.

Now it's your turn.
