How to calculate the daily rate of an annual salary?

Discuss this question

Question found in Employment Law
It depends on your schedule. Most people use 52 weeks but if you look closely, it often will not add up correctly. Try using a calendar and count the actual days minus any holiday's, etc. You will be surprised.

Why do salmon jump?

Discuss this question

Question found in Animals & Nature
They sometimes encounter shallow, faster water in which they can't navigate without jumping over the obstruction(s), rocky falls, etc. It's like trying to run into the water from the beach and if you don't jump over the waves, it will push you backwards and you can't gain enough momentum to get to where you are trying to go. IMHO

How can I make my relationship work out, me an my spouse have different personality types and it's tearing us apart?

Discuss this question

Question found in Intimate Relationships
My wife is very conservative, shy, raised in a similar belief system and remains a cornbread fed-girl,(country), as I like to call her. I was also shy but got over it somewhat by becoming the "workaholic". She put up with my very long hours at work and my music which sometimes allowed me to only get home at ridiculous hours of the night and morning, sometimes even at daylight because of the long distances I had to travel on most of my gigs. She didn't have to put up with this, but she decided that she would and she discovered that I was able to find a way to create even more time to spend with my family instead of letting my jobs get in the way so much.

She and I disagreed on my working as a musician mostly because of the unwanted elements that are introduced in this business, but she trusted and supported me as I have always trusted and supported her. She also knew that this was my second job so I could buy all of the extras needed for her and my daughter. It wasn't that easy in the beginning because we were both young and trying to just figure out how to do it all. It's the fear of the unknown that will drive you crazy only if you let it.

She handled the bills and I brought her every dime I made because I was not good at managing our money even though I could manage a large company budget on time and within budget. Now that we are older and grandparents we look back on what we did and realized that all it took was communicating to each other and agreeing on what was most important. Sometimes I forget and I will apologize for not being straight-forward with her as I could have and as long as I remain considerate to all of her needs, she also now understands most of what is not said between us as I do her. Then we begin to finish each others sentences and thoughts, like magic.

When a couple starts out young, they usually think that everything is assumed, or at least one of them will. It takes the other to find a way sometimes, to gently, but directly begin the agreement to disagree. Even though they disagree, they find common ground to stand on which ultimately results in compromise, understanding each others differences, and appreciating them, as well as the faults which are equally acceptable and not used as a weapon against each other. Sorry this was so long and I hope it helps.

I have a shower where the water is just trickling out and the temperature isn't very hot what can I do?

Discuss this question

Question found in Home & Garden In General
You should be able to remove the shower head relatively easy. Sometimes they accumulate particles which need to be removed and may return the pressure to it's original state. If it is not that type of problem, you may have a hot water heater element going bad, but that doesn't explain the simultaneous lack of pressure unless it is just plain coincidence with the following.

A loss of water due to repairs made on the main system out near the street can also introduce contaminants through the repair process. If you haven't shut off your water heater during this repair, it can also damage your heating element and clog your system. check with your neighbors to see if this has been the case and check all of your sinks, washer, additional faucets, etc. If there is brown water or low pressure in most or all of them you may have had a shut off due to repair. The likely problem is that the element is bad but you must check with a plumber and/or electrician if you are not experienced at this because it is very dangerous to attempt without it.

Why do we study mathematics?

Discuss this question

Question found in Universities & Colleges
Without it we wouldn't be able to calculate time, distance, and several other simple tasks. If you really think about it, it is numbers keeping track of other numbers as simple as the alphabet that's written in letters. You can't spell the letter "A' but you can spell the number "1". Both are represented by a number, but mean different things. We live in a society where someone always asks a new question,,,,where is, what is, who is, etc., but there is a basic representation of everything in math even down to the smallest of detail. If you need to know, for example, how to get to a particular place, it requires math. How far, how long, when will you get back, what does it cost, how many people are going, is there enough room for everyone, and so on. You use it without thinking about it because it is there and we have to try and make sense of it in some order. Math is that order. I am not a genius but I do think about the question sometimes, same as you do.........

Why does my cat bring mice INTO the house?

Discuss this question

Question found in Cats
It is a representation to the owner that he is capable of earning his keep while reminding you he can be self sufficient if necessary and displaying his mouse as his prize for others to see his rank in the household. He just doesn't know that he isn't supposed to bring it in the house. Dogs will sometimes have the same behavior, but with much greater displays of dominance, almost ritualistic in behavior. You can train them in a couple of ways. One would be to compete for the prize and take it away as soon as it's discovered while the animal is observing. If possession is dominant in him, he will hesitate in bringing it in the house the next time in fear of losing it to you as competition. It works every time with my 85 pound German Shepherd when it comes to her leaving her toys where she shouldn't, etc..

How does a Perpetual calendar watch work?

Discuss this question

Question found in Electronics & Gadgets
The early "calendar" watches, dating from the 16th century, were equipped with a mechanism giving the day, date and month in addition to the hour which was still imprecise at that point in time.

In a calendar watch, the days and months follow sequentially but the same cannot be said of the dates which are either 28, 29, 30 or 31 depending on the month and whether it is leap year or not. In a "simple" calendar watch, it is necessary to correct the date five times during the year, i.e. the first day of March, May, July, October and December

Abrahain-Louis Breguet is usually credited with having invented the mechanism which made these corrections automatically.

His invention led to today's "perpetual calendar" watches as opposed to "simple calendar" timepieces. These models are based on the Julian calendar rather than the Gregorian calendar in use today. As a result, leap years are not deleted at the end of three out of four centuries, thus making it necessary to correct the watch three times in 400 years. Regarding leap years, February 29 has been deleted in the years 1700, 1800 and 1900. It won't be deleted in 2000 but will be in 2100, thus today's ads for perpetual calendar watches are right in their claims that these models will not have to be corrected for over a century. The actual duration of a year is 365.2422 days. The perpetual calendar counts the year as having 365.25 days while the simple calendar counts 12 x 31 = 372 days making it necessary to remove 6 or 7 days every year.
