My dog is "panting" heavily and "barking" shallow. Could this be because she is in pain?

Discuss this question

Question found in Health & Fitness In General
Does she usually bark at something in particular or is she trying to tell you something is wrong? The heavy panting regulates the internal temperature of a dog. If she is sluggish, isn't eating well or not drinking water especially when she is panting, it's probably something to talk with a vet about. A dog in pain will usually become rigid in most cases with a clinched jaw, neck or hard abdomen with the tail down, sometimes tucked. They also tend to bite and restrict movement in an area that is injured, usually sitting if they cannot lay down or will be down and cannot easily get up. I really would need much more info about symptoms to explain in any great detail.

It's been 4 years, why won't my husband forgive me?

Discuss this question

Question found in Intimate Relationships
It could be that he honestly doesn't know how, or hasn't been in such a tough position as this. Forgetting may be the only problem while forgiving is easy and this passes in time with positive encouragement, both from you and himself. Having the will to forget is an amazing, and yet relatively easy goal. If you've ever lost a very close loved one, you can certainly understand how the grieving process has to work itself out. Grief is not only one emotion, it is many. Fear, anger, pain, despair, hate, love, joy and so on, will have to reveal itself in time and in order to be healed from this unfair burden we must put ourselves through. We usually do it in the name of love.

The basic premise is that you cannot put a time window on grief, but you can reasonably expect that it will end in due time, and he will then get better. Some people take around 3 to 5 years for the healing process while others are amazingly fast. It is all in how well you support each other during this time that makes you both an awesome force to be reckoned with. The experience is something you want to put behind you as quickly as possible and his resolve, (as well as yours), of this strong challenge will make or break him, depending on how often he is reminded of it. Good luck to both of you.

Why does the internal speaker in a computer beep?

Discuss this question

Question found in Computers In General
Tatrazine is correct. When PC's first became available they all came almost mandatory with an internal speaker to acknowledge the boot sequence by a series of long and short beeps. If the PC were to have a power supply problem, for instance, it would give a code in the form of short and long beeps. This way the geeks of old, (as I have become), could reference the PC repair bible and decode the error to begin working out the problem. Nowadays, windows and others will just display an error message along with the rare beep which sometimes still occurs. One short beep is usually a good sign on bootup.

Are there really incarnated angels on earth?

Discuss this question

Question found in Spirituality In General
Angels have charge over us. They are for our protection as directed by the Lord and they don't look like we mortals think they do. How do I know this? My life has been spared too many times. It has been no coincidence given the unique circumstances and I know not the reason I am still here, but I must have some very important unfinished business because of it. You'll know it when the time comes because their presence isn't visible but you can feel it very strongly as they are at their best when you are in serious danger. This doesn't mean we can jump off a building and be protected, only that you are spared during those times where you had no control over it.

Their thinking, as with the Lord as well, is not like ours, so we must not try to think beyond our mortal ways. This makes it easier for us and them.

Is Shingles contagious?

Discuss this question

Question found in Personal Health Issues
The virus that causes shingles is usually contracted in childhood. It is the same virus that causes chicken pox, which is primarily a disease of childhood because it is highly contagious; that is, few individuals live to adulthood without contracting chicken pox. (This statement applies to the temperate zones of the world. For unknown reasons, chicken pox and shingles are less prevalent in tropical regions.) The virus that causes both chicken pox and shingles can, however, be contracted by an individual for the first time in adulthood. First infection, at whatever age it occurs, is called primary infection. Primary infection does not cause shingles; shingles arises from reactivation of virus introduced to the body by an earlier, primary infection.

My dog is 14 years old and he is having trouble going poop and he is not in any pain. He sleeps alot.

Discuss this question

Question found in Dogs In General
When a dog gets older as people do, they tend to have similar health problems such as arthritis, back problems, joint pain, etc. Usually when they start having trouble pooping, they will need to go to the vet and he will remove the compaction and release some fluids that build up in the anal glands. This is similar to hemorrhoids but will interfere with the normal function of the dog in almost all cases and in many ways.

We tend to see pain in people easier than we can with dogs. If you carefully watch for rapid or labored breathing and look for trembling this is a sign of pain. Also watch the tail and if it is straight down with little movement and if the dog is hesitant to go up a simple step without assistance, then this also is an indication. You can take both hands and feel of the jawline and the neck near the jaw and if you feel hardness or tension, this can also be a result of pain.

Look closely and see if his jaw is clenched as this will be obvious. Also, try rubbing gently over the dogs back towards the hips, around the belly and top of the spine where the tail joins the back. This area is sensitive and will be painful if it is severe and the dog will let you know. A trip to the vet may be what is needed as well as an xray to check for calcification of the vertebrae around the spine irritated by constipation. Good luck with your old friend.

How do I cope with a lazy unloving boyfriend and a house and my 18 month old baby?

Discuss this question

Question found in Intimate Relationships
If you have only recently found yourself in this dilemma, maybe the boyfriend, house, baby is a huge part of the confusion, or problem. Is the boyfriend a father to the baby but not yet a husband? Does he work and provide as a husband or a father or only like a boyfriend? Lazy to you is because it seems that you are the one doing all of the work. Try to look at it from other points of view, such as from his shoes if you can.

Sometimes we forget the facts as they are and we try to make them appear as a problem to be solved without knowing we have the power to do so when we want. If the house is an issue, then why do you not like the house? If it is what you want, then are you confined to this house because of a baby's current needs? It won't always be this way. Pretty soon it will change and it will be how you handle that change that decides whether or not you are accepting in nature or unhappy with this configuration or, ask him if he is happy. The old saying, "when mom's not happy, then nobody's happy", is true. I also think that all mom's deserve happiness.

You have a lot of responsibility and it's not always easy so you do those things that make them easier in the future by planning. Although we never know what tomorrow holds, we can attempt to plan for it. Get married, move, raise your child the best way possible, find a career when the child goes to school if you want and then you will likely find happiness. All you must be patient with is time. Good luck to you.

Hi,

My six year old daughter has recently started involuntarily burping very loudly and frequently. This isn't being done as a joke or for attention, in fact, she is quite embarrassed about it. We don't give her fizzy drinks and her diet is normal.

What could this be and how can we help stop it? Should we take her to the doctors?

Discuss this question

Question found in Personal Health Issues
Burping is typically caused by eating or drinking too fast, and thereby swallowing (aerophagia) and subsequently expelling air, in which case the expelled gas is a mixture of nitrogen and oxygen. Burps can also be caused by imbibing carbonated drinks such as beer, soft drinks, or champagne, in which case the expelled gas is carbon dioxide from the drink itself. Gastroesophageal reflux disease can also cause involuntary burping. Some studies[1] have suggested that aerophagia is not the primary culprit but that burping is in fact a learned (social) behaviour.
