To melt gold we need high temperatures - a furnace. I have seen the goldsmiths in India do this. They use the charcoal from coconut shells as fuel. It seems burning the coconut shell charcoal produces temperatures high enough to melt gold. I have seen the molten gold flowing round in their crucible.
